The purpose of this study was to examine what features within the motion pictures that adult students appreciate the most, examine possible reasons for this, and see how the teacher can use this information. I have used a quantitative method in the shape of an inquiry conducted in five classes in a school for adult education in southern Sweden. I have used four different theories in my analyse: psychoanalyse, semiotics, cognitivism and feminist theory. The result was that most students preferred the more easy accessible Hollywood-movies that they were more familiar with. There were small and few differences between the oppinions of men and women concerning the movie sequences. A nice presentation seem to be more important than realism and historical accuracy. This information should instead be the teachers job to provide. Motion pictures are appreciated tools of pedagogy.
