This research focuses on interactions between bureaucratic actors and non-European high skilled labour migrants who have sought employment in Sweden or Germany. Through semistructured interviews with ten individuals from various third country nations, the thesis will explore themes of emotional labour, the psychology behind interactions with bureaucracy, and the subsequential consequences on the migrant’s psyche and their further trajectory. Interactions with bureaucracy will be analysed through the perspective of a high skilled labour migrant, a group of migrants that is desperately needed in many west European nations yet severely understudied within disciplines such as sociology, psychology, and economics. The question to answer is whether interactions with bureaucracy shape or affect the migrant(s) trajectory in any way, and how these interactions affect the migrant on a personal level. The findings prove that interactions with bureaucracy do in fact affect a migrant on multiple levels, pointing out an interesting dynamic of rigid structure and emotional performances.
