Decryption of communication platforms frequently used to coordinatecriminal activities—EncroChat, SkyECC, and ANOM—has yielded an unprecedentedsource of information about the planning and management of various crimes. Theseintercepted communications have been introduced as evidence in numerous court rulings.Yet, little is known about the structure and content of the court cases built around suchmaterial. This presentation summarizes what we know about 194 district court cases ruledbetween 2019 and 2024, involving 733 individuals, in which encrypted chats fromEncroChat, SkyECC, or ANOM were key pieces of evidence. Specifically, it explores casedevelopment, types of crimes, sentencing outcomes, and the differences between thecommunication platforms. The findings set the stage for subsequent presentations that delveinto more specific questions using the same, or parts of same, corpus.
