Parallels have increasingly been drawn between Finland’s experience from its conflicts with the Soviet Union during the Second World War and Ukraine’s current struggle against Russian aggression. The analogy has gained considerable traction. The author argues that while the sentiment is understandable, the comparison between Finland’s situation in 1944 and Ukraine’s current war with Russia is problematic and possibly misleading.
