Dental extraction is the most common oral surgical procedure in the oral cavity. From a patient's perspective, it is associated with a great deal of trauma over losing a body part. At the same time, one must take into account that if an indicated extraction treatment is not performed, there are also future risks; it can have dire consequences – such as severe spread of infection, deteriorating conditions for the replacement of a lost tooth, and extensive and expensive reconstructions. The goal is to perform a tooth extraction as atraumatic as possible. The treatment is usually not a question of strength but that of having knowledge of how to use appropriate techniques for tooth removal. Learning to preoperatively assess the severity of a tooth can be crucial. The clinician must be well prepared for all situations that may unexpectedly arise and, in these situations, remain calm, focused, and solution oriented.
