Bakgrund: Sex och sexualitet är starkt förankrat i genitalierna och penetrationsnormen. Enligt Halperin (1995) kan BDSM vara ett hjälpmedel att utveckla njutning och hitta andra sätt än genom genitalierna att uppleva sexuell njutning. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka BDSM-utövares perspektiv och upplevelser av sexuell njutning utan genital beröring. Metod: Studien baseras på kvalitativa intervjuer med elva informanter, som definierar sig som BDSM-utövare med erfarenhet av icke genital njutning. Materialet analyseras utifrån en socialkonstruktivistisk och queerteoretiskt ansats, med hjälp av begrepp som sexuell värdehierarki och sexuella script. Resultat: Empirin har analyserats utifrån fyra olika teman; BDSM, Att bryta mot normer, Tillit och val av partner samt Icke genital sexuell njutning. Resultaten tolkas i relation till tidigare forskning kring icke genitala orgasmer. Det som skiljer sig från tidigare forskning är att i studien beskrivs upplevelser av sexuell njutning kopplat till smärta, maktförskjutning, stryptag, betingade orgasmer och orgasmer framkallade genom erotisk hypnos. Analysen visar att BDSM kan användas som ett verktyg för att nå en eftersträvansvärd närvaro och skapa en djupare känsla av intimitet. Generellt är sexuell nöjdhet kopplat till orgasm men för BDSM-utövare så kopplas sexuell nöjdhet mer till mental och emotionell nöjdhet. Att utforska sexualitet utanför normen kan både ses som en möjliggörare och ett hinder. Slutsats: För BDSM-utövare kan sexualitet och sex vara mer än stimulering av genitalier, i studien framkommer vikten av att stimulera det mentala och skapa närvaro. Ibland saknas det ord när man utforskar sexualitet utanför normen vilket kan försvåra att föra samtal om det man upplever.

Background: Sex and sexuality are strongly rooted in the genitals and the norm of penetration. According to Halperin (1995), BDSM can be an aid to develop pleasure and find other ways than through the genitals to experience sexual pleasure. Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate BDSM practitioners perspectives and experiences of sexual pleasure without genital touch. Method: The study is based on qualitative interviews with eleven informants, who define themselves as BDSM practitioners with experience of non-genital pleasure. The material is analyzed based on a social constructivist and queer theoretical approach, using concepts such as sexual value hierarchy and sexual scripts. Results: The empirical data has been analyzed based on four different themes; BDSM, Breaking norms, Trust, choise of partner and context, and Non genital sexual pleasure. The results are interpreted in relation to previous research on non-genital orgasms. What is different to prior research is that in this study experiences of sexual pleasure related to pain, power shifts, chokeholds, conditioned orgasms, and orgasms induced through erotic hypnosis are described. The analysis shows that BDSM can be used as a tool to reach a desirable presence and create a deeper sense of intimacy. In general, sexual satisfaction is linked to orgasm, but for BDSM practitioners, sexual satisfaction is more connected to mental and emotional fulfillment. Exploring sexuality outside the norm can be seen as both an enabler and an obstacle. Conclusion: For BDSM-practitioners sexuality and sex are more than stimulation of the genitals, this study presents the importance of mental stimulation and being presence. Being present in the moment, trust and good communication are three important factors in the exploring. BDSM can be a tool to achieve this. Sometimes there are no words when exploring sexuality outside the norm, which can make it difficult to have conversations about what you are experiencing.
