Syftet med denna uppsats är att kartlägga och analysera hur personer med psykisk ohälsa och/eller neuropsykiatriska funktionsnedsättningar (NPF) använder stora språkmodeller (LLM), såsom ChatGPT, som självhjälpsverktyg. En scoping study har genomförts enligt Arksey och O'Malleys metodologiska ramverk, i kombination med reflexiv tematisk innehållsanalys enligt Braun och Clarke. Tolv vetenskapliga artiklar har analyserats utifrån användarperspektiv och teoretiskt ramverk baserat på empowerment och kognitiva bias. Resultaten visar att LLM-verktyg kan fungera som lågtröskelstöd, främja självständighet och tillgång till individanpassad information. Samtidigt identifieras risker såsom AI-hallucinationer, automatiseringsbias och begränsad läsbarhet. Studien drar slutsatsen att LLM kan utgöra ett värdefullt komplement till traditionellt stöd, men att teknikens användning måste föregås av etisk reflektion, mänsklig översyn och anpassning till målgruppens behov.

The aim of this thesis is to explore how individuals with mental health conditions and/or neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) use Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, as self-help tools. A scoping study was conducted following the methodological framework of Arksey and O’Malley, combined with reflexive thematic analysis as outlined by Braun and Clarke. Twelve peer-reviewed articles were analyzed from a user-centered perspective, using empowerment theory and cognitive bias as the theoretical framework. The results indicate that LLM-based tools can provide low-threshold support, foster autonomy, and improve access to personalized information. However, the study also identifies several risks, including AI hallucinations, automation bias, and limited readability. It concludes that while LLMs may serve as valuable complements to traditional support, their use requires ethical consideration, human oversight, and careful adaptation to the needs of the target group.
