2024 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 180 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The digital transformation has emerged as one of the most prominent trends in modern times, significantly impacting various aspects of our lives, particularly the perception of where, when, and how work should be conducted. Alongside the numerous opportunities presented by digital technology, new risks concerning the work environment emerge, posing challenges related to psychosocial stressors and the division of responsibilities. By implementing qualitative interviews, the study aims to examine how professionals in the media industry are affected by the use of digital communication tools associated with hybrid work practices, as well as who bears responsibility for the digital work environment. The Social Shaping of Technology Theory, Demand- Control- Support-Model (DCS), as well as The Technostress Model are applied to interpret and analyze the result. The results demonstrate that the use of digital tools presents challenges in the form of psychosocial stressors, such as Techno Invasion (TI) and Techno Overload (TO). The study partially confirms The Technostress Model, associating high Organizational Flexibility with better management of Technostress. However, the model is contradicted as flexibility does not operate as a sole moderator, and the variable Capactiy of Self Responsibility is added to elucidate perceived technostress. Despite the emphasis on individual accountability, the primary responsibility for ensuring a sustainable digital work environment is considered to lie with companies. There is a demand for guidelines and policies that promote a healthy digital work environment. Suggestions include guidelines for digital internal communication and work boundaries, tailored to the specific needs of both the company and the individuals.
