This research was conducted to study women that are subjected to honor-based violence and how that affects their ability to access the ten central capabilities in the capabilities approach by Nussbaum, that also can be referred to as fundamental human rights. The purpose is to analyze if the women have access to the relevant capabilities and to identify factors that facilitate their ability to exercise their fundamental human rights.
The collected material in this study consists of semi-structured interviews with both women who have been subjected to honor-based violence and oppression, as well as professionals working in the field. The capabilities approach served as the analytical framework for examining the material, which revealed significant limitations in access to the ten central capabilities. Additionally, the analysis identified certain factors that enhance access to these capabilities, such as the possibility to participate in education, which serves as an effective protective factor against honor-based violence.
