Background: According to Swedish government implementation of welfare technology in elderly care is an important key to face the challenges of a growing elderly population. Welfare technology is also precivied to support the development of organizations in elderly care and have been an area where welfare technology have been used the most. Aim: the aim for this study is to explore the implementation process through first-line managers. Their role in the process and what challenges that comes with organizations implementation of welfare technology. Method: With a semi-structured approach, the author interviewed six first-line managers in home care services to highlight their perspective on the implementation of welfare technology. A thematic analysis has been used on the collected data from the interviews. Result: The primary role for first-line managers in the implementation process was to lead employees in their use of welfare technology. Organize education for the employees and motivate them to integrate the technologies in their care work. The challanges with implementation of welfare technologies were related to criticism from the employees of the technologies. Also, the organizational structure and the infrastructure in the working places were perceived as challenging factors. Discussion: in comparison with other studies, this study found that that first-line managers had to work more closely with the staff during the implementation process. Facing staff's criticism about the technologies played a huge part in the managers role in the implementation process. A discussion is also made about the national guidelines on the welfare technologies in relation to the role of first line managers in elderly care.
