Abstract [en]

This thesis examines how Palestinians are portrayed in Swedish media before and after 7th October 2023, using Comparative Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to analyze changes in representation and narrative. Given Sweden’s historical support for Palestinian rights, the investigation seeks to analyze whether current developments have affected media framing, potentially aligning with broader Western media narratives that could marginalize Palestinian voices. Through an in-depth analysis of discourse structures, narrative access, and comparative changes in representation, the research demonstrates a multifaceted connection between security narratives and humanitarian concerns. The research adds to the conversation on how media shapes ethnic relations and provides insights into the changing dynamics of media narratives in a divided political climate. The findings emphasize the importance of media representation for public opinion, the understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, and the need for balanced coverage that recognizes the agency of Palestinian voices.
