Parenting in the spotlight: A qualitative content analysis of mom- and dadfluencers representation of parental roles on Youtube (English)
Abstract [en]

In this study, we analyze vlogs from four selected mom- and dadfluencers, published on their Youtube channels, with the aim of examining and deepening the understanding of how parental roles are portrayed on this media platform. Through a qualitative semiotic content analysis, the study further aims to investigate whether this subgroup of influencers challenges or reinforces traditional norms surrounding parenting. The two main theoretical perspectives used in this study are gender and representation. The results showed that mom- and dadfluencers on Youtube today can somewhat be seen challenging the traditional norms surrounding parenthood, but not to such a degree that this representation can be considered to contribute to reconstructing the norms of parenthood to more equal.

I denna studie analyseras vloggar från fyra utvalda mom- och dadfluencers, publicerade på deras Youtube kanaler med syftet att undersöka och fördjupa förståelsen för hur föräldraroller framställs på denna medieplattform. Genom en kvalitativ semiotisk innehållsanalys syftar studien vidare till att undersöka huruvida denna subgrupp till influencers utmanar eller förstärker traditionella normer kring föräldraskap. De två huvudperspektiven som används inom denna studie är genus och representation. Resultatet visade att mom- och dadfluencers på Youtube idag till viss del kan ses utmana de traditionella normerna kring föräldraskap, men inte till så stor del att denna representation kan anses bidra till att omkonstruera normerna kring föräldraskap till mer jämlika.
