Abstract [en]

This paper explores the privacy and security aspects of IoT child care devices and parents’ perceptions and attitudes towards them, offering valuable insights into their perspectives on such devices. The research methods employed in this paper were semi-structured interviews alongside a systematic literature review. Varying degrees of familiarity with IoT child care devices were observed, with concerns mostly centered around privacy and security risks associated with data handling and storage. The findings suggest that parents are apprehensive about adopting such devices due to the perceived sensitivity of the data collected by them. Manufacturers were viewed with much skepticism, with parents emphasizing the importance of company reputation, security testing, and transparency in their policies. The implications of the findings highlight the need for manufacturers to address privacy and security concerns, employ user-friendly designs, and provide transparent communication and educational resources, as well as stricter regulations. Doing so could help with the adoption of such devices in parenting.
