Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vad som blev avgörande för föreningen “Västra Hamnen - Have it allt” beslut att ingå eller frångå certifiering av en stadsdels hållbarhet enligt Citylab för stadsdelen Västra Hamnen. Den vetenskapliga metod som använts i denna studie är en kvalitativ metod med ansats i semistrukturerad intervju. Föreliggande studie har haft ett sekventiellt och målstyrt urval om fem deltagare vilka samtliga haft nyckelroller i föreningen “Västra Hamnen - Have it all” projekt att anta certifiering av en stadsdels hållbarhet enligt Citylab. Resultatet visar att föreningen “Västra Hamnen - Have it all” ville genomföra en uppföljning av vad stadsdelen hade åstadkommit med sitt hållbarhetsarbete. Certifiering av en stadsdels hållbarhet enligt Citylab möjliggjorde för föreningen att samla in kunskap och kompetens från dess medlemmar genom samverkan mot gemensamma mål. Vad som blev avgörande för föreningen att frångå projektet var först av allt att föreningen inte kunde agera om de inte hade styrelsemedlemmar som var drivande i projektet. För det andra gick det inte att driva ett sådant projekt utan medverkan från Malmö stad. Det fanns heller inte någon tydlig strategi varpå de interna ambitionerna blev svåra att anpassa till de externa faktorerna. Slutsatsen konstaterar att en samordnare vilken kan agera som en länk mellan Malmö stad och relevanta aktörer kan vara avgörande för framtida liknande certifieringsprojekt att lyckas. 

The purpose is to examine which factors that became decisive for the association “Västra Hamnen - Have it all” decision to enter or depart from certification of the district Western Harbour’s sustainability according to Citylab. The scientific approach used in this bachelor’s thesis is a qualitative method based on semi-structured interviews. The study has had a sequential and goal-oriented selection for respondents of five who all had a key role in the association “Västra Hamnen - Have it all” attempt to certify its district’s sustainability according to Citylab. The results of the study shows that the ambition to certify the district’s sustainability through Citylab was that the association wanted to follow up the work of the district’s sustainability to see what they had achieved. It enabled the association “Västra Hamnen - Have it all” to gather expertise and knowledge from its members through cooperation towards common goals. What became decisive for the association to depart the attempt to certify Western Harbour’s sustainability according to Citylab was first of all that the association couldn’t act if they didn’t have board members driving the project. Secondly, the project wasn't possible to implement without the participation of the city of Malmö. Also, there was no clear strategy so it became difficult to adapt the internal ambitions with the external factors. The conclusion stands that a coordinator that can act as a link between the city of Malmö and relevant stakeholders can be crucial for similar future certification projects to success.
