The purpose of this essay is to answer the following questions: in what context are Muslims and Islam represented in Swedish media? And what impact does the media have on Swedish students’ view of Islam? I have answered the questions based on previous literature and research that has been done based on the area. The representation of Muslims and Islam in Swedish media have been represented in various ways depending on the media company’s purpose. In the past couple of years, Islam is something that media report about more frequently than before. Thus, we must be aware of the purpose of each media company while reporting about Islam and Muslims. Firstly, the essay begins with a chapter that will be about Islam and Muslims how they appear in Swedish media. I will write about Islamic symbols that occur in media and how they occur, the differences between media, how war and terror are presented while reporting about Islam and how media write about Islam as a violent religion. Secondly, there will be another chapter that has it focus on school, the students’ attitude towards Muslims. Lastly, there will also be a part on studies on Islam in schoolbooks. Additionally, the essay has a method section that contains the literature compilation process that I used while searching relevant literature and research connected to the essay questions that is to be answered.
