Att utveckla förståelse för evolutionsteori kan vid första anblicken verka enkelt, men flera studier visar att undervisning många gånger är problematisk och inte leder till begreppsförståelse. Undervisningen om evolution kan ha olika fokus, till exempel begreppsförståelse rörande evolutionen eller att visa utvecklingen som ett historiskt förlopp. Detta arbete har fokus på begreppsförståelsen av evolutionära mekanismer och hur elever utvecklar förståelse av dessa. Vi har haft möjlighet att studera elever i två gymnasieklasser som var i akt att påbörja kursmoment som behandlar evolutionen. Alla dessa elever har en gemensam kunskapsgrund i den svenska grundskolan men kommer nu studera evolution utifrån olika förutsättningar. Undersökningen visar på några av de utmaningar som lärare och elever ställs inför vid undervisning om evolutionsteorin.

To develop an understanding of the theory of evolution may, at first glance seem simple, but several studies show that teaching it often is problematic and does not lead to conceptual understanding. The teaching of evolution may focus on different aspects such as conceptual understanding of evolution or to show evolution as a historical process. This essay is focused on conceptual understanding of evolutionary mechanisms and how students develop an understanding of them. We have had the opportunity to study students in two high school classes before they began studiyng evolution. All these students have a common body of knowledge from Swedish elementary school but they will now study evolution from two different perspectives. The survey reveals some of the challenges that teachers face when teaching evolution.
