This research synthesis examines the connection between role-playing in ESL/EFL- classrooms and developed speaking skills. The relation is an investigation based on educational articles and L2- learning methods, and theory as a foundation. The purpose of this study was to find out if students confidence to speak in English could benefit from role-play, because even though many students in Sweden are familiar with English, many feel uncomfortable to speak themselves. Therefore this synthesis will try to provide an answer to the research question ​To what extent could drama/ role-play be a resource to improve ESL/EFL-students confidence in speaking English?​ Further, it was found that role-play encourage students creativity and help them practicing new language skills as well as it can help students to overcome fear of speaking. The data in this study were collected from peer-reviewed articles focusing on role-play and second language learning, and how those two could be combined to improve and develop English. In addition, the studies emphasized year 7-9 and the articles were not older than 2010.
