Män är minoritet i förskolan och detta påtalas inte sällan i media, att män behövs i förskolan samt varför de väljer bort förskolläraryrket diskuteras även ofta i media. Mot denna bakgrund är syftet med denna uppsats tudelat. Dels syftar studien till att belysa vilka genuskodade förväntningar manliga och kvinnliga förskollärare har på män i förskolan. Vidare syftar studien till att belysa vilka genuskodade förklaringar manliga och kvinnliga förskollärare ger till varför det arbetar så få män i förskolan. Studien baseras på kvalitativa intervjuer med fyra män och fyra kvinnor som samtliga arbetar som förskollärare. En fenomenologisk analys- och tolkningsmodell samt genusteori används. Studiens teoretiska utgångspunkter består av Connell och Hirdmans genusteorier. Resultatet visar att män i förskolan inte anses vara nödvändiga att vara manliga förebilder. Vissa förutfattade meningar och förväntningar framkom om män och deras roll i förskolan samt indelning av manliga och kvinnliga aktiviteter. Status och könskategorisering av yrket benämns som förklaringar till bristen av män i förskolan. Vidare framhåller studien att misstankar om pedofili kan vara en bidragande faktor till bristen av män i förskoleverksamheten.

Against this background, the purpose of this essay is twofold. Firstly, the study aims to highlight the gender coded expectations of male and female preschool teachers have the men in preschool. The study is based on qualitative interviews with four men and four women who all work as a preschool teacher. A phenomenological analysis and interpretation model and gender theory is used. Some preconceptions and expectations emerged of men and their role in pre-school and division of male and female activities. Status and gender categorization of the profession referred to as explanations for the lack of men in preschool. Also emphasizes the study of suspicions of pedophilia could be a contributing factor to the lack of men in early childhood education.
