I Danmark kan personer med funktionsnedsättning få vägledning och rådgivning i frågor som rör sexualitet av så kallade sexualvägledare. Sexualvägledare är socialarbetare som har gått en sexualvägledarutbildning och därmed har speciell kompetens att stödja såväl personal som personer med funktionsnedsättning i frågor som rör sexualitet. Emellertid kan forskningen om sexualvägledarnas arbete sägas vara nästintill obefintlig, varför uppsatsens syfte varit att undersöka hur sexualvägledare i Danmark upplever sin yrkesroll vid vägledning och rådgivning i frågor som rör sexualitet till personer med funktionsnedsättning. Fyra semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med tre sexualvägledare och en sexolog i Danmark. Den empiriska datan analyserades sedan med stöd av teoribildningen kring sociala representationer och KASAM. Resultaten visade intervjupersonerna var positivt inställda till sin yrkesroll och kände en glädje i att kunna göra skillnad för personer med funktionsnedsättning i förhållande till sexualitet. Vidare visade resultaten att intervjupersonerna upplevde såväl svårigheter som möjligheter i sin yrkesroll. Möjligheterna var bl.a. att kunna göra det bättre för en bred målgrupp, exempelvis genom att utbilda personal i frågor som rör sexualitet. Svårigheterna bestod bl.a. i ekonomiska utmaningar och att inte kunna uppfylla andras drömmar. Intervjupersonerna såg också positivt på sin yrkesroll i framtiden.

In Denmark, people with disabilities can receive guidance and counselling regarding issues related to sexuality from so-called sex-counsellors. Sex-counsellors are social workers who have an education in sexual guidance and thus have the special competence to support both staff and persons with disabilities in issues related to sexuality. However, research on the sex-counsellors’ work can almost be seen as non-existent. Therefore, the aim of this study has been to explore how sex-counsellors in Denmark perceive their profession in relation to guidance and counselling for people with disabilities regarding issues related to sexuality. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted with three sex-counsellors and one sexologist in Denmark. The empirical data were then analysed with the support of the theory of Social Representations and the theory of Sense of Coherence (SOC). The results of the interviews showed that the informants were sympathetic towards their profession and that they felt a joy in being able to make a difference for people with disabilities regarding issues related to sexuality. Furthermore, the results showed that the informants experienced both opportunities and difficulties in their professional role. The opportunities involved e.g. being able to make life better for a wide target group, including the education of staff regarding issues related to sexuality. The difficulties involved e.g. economic challenges and not being able to fulfil other people's dreams. The informants were also positive concerning their professional role in the future.
