Female genital mutilation (FGM) is an ancient custom which is practiced in many African countries. After years of disturbances in these countries many Africans have immigrated to Sweden. The aim of this literature review was to describe how nurses in the best way can treat these women, and be able to provide the best care for them when they seek healthcare in Sweden, on account of complications from FGM, and to find out which part education play in the attitudes toward FGM.

Kvinnlig könsstympning (FGM) är en måntusenårig sed som praktiseras i många afrikanska länder. Efter oroligheter i dessa länder har många afrikaner sökt sig till Sverige. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att beskriva hur sjuksköterskor ska bemöta könsstympade kvinnor i olika omvårdnadssituationer och kunna bedöma vilket behov av omvårdnad kvinnorna har när de kommer i kontakt med sjukvården p.g.a sina komplikationer efter könsstympningen, samt vilken betydelse utbildning har angående attityder till kvinnlig könsstympning.
