Bakgrund: Färg påverkar och berör människor på olika sätt. Dagens färgforskning har till syfte att förbättra kunskapen om hur vi påverkas av färg och hur vi på ett bra sätt kan använ-da färg i vår miljö. Det är känt att miljön påverkar läkningen men det är först på senare tid kunskapen används vid utformning av sjukhus men det är sällan som den fysiska miljöns roll används i utvärderingar av sjukhusvistelser eller av vårdinsatser. Syfte: Att belysa om befintlig färg i patientsalen påverkar vuxna inneliggande patienter med avseende på trygghet, välbefinnande och trivsel. Vuxna i denna studie avsåg patienter i ål-dern 20-60 år. Tidigare forskning när det gäller vuxna patienter är begränsad men det finns forskning på äldre och äldre med Alhzeimerssjukdom som visar att färg har betydelse. Metod: Data har samlats via en enkätundersökning som genomfördes på en kirurgisk akut-vårdsavdelning på ett universitetssjukhus i södra Sverige. Datainsamlingen pågick i 10 veckor under början av året 2009 och 60 enkäter samlades in. Resultat: De flesta deltagarna i enkätundersökningen hade lagt märke till färgsättningen i patientsalen, däremot visade det sig att bara hälften tyckte att färgen hade betydelse för sjukhusvistelsen. Background: Colour affects and touches people in different ways. The purpose of todays research concerning colour is to improve the knowledge of how we are affected by colour, and how we can use colour in our surrounding environment in a good way. It is known from previous studies that the environment affects healing, but it is not until recently that this knowledge has been utilized when designing hospitals. However, the importance of the physical environment is rarely considered when evaluating hospital stays or health care. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to highlight whether the existing colour of patient rooms affect inpatient adults in terms of their security, well-being and patient satisfaction. The research sample was of adults between the ages of twenty to sixty years. Research con-cerning the significance of colour in adult patients is limited, however there is research re-garding elderly with or without Alzheimers disease showing that colour is of significance. Methods: In this study a quantitative approach was used and data was collected using ques-tionnaires as a tool. The study was conducted in an acute surgical ward in a teaching hospital located in the southern part of Sweden. The collection of research data continued for a pe-riod of ten weeks in the beginning of the year 2009 and 60 questionnaires was collected. Results: It was found that the majority of the participants in the study had noticed the colour settings of the room. On the other hand, only half of the participants thought colour was of significance during their hospital stay. Furthermore, one third was of the opinion that colour did not have any importance at all. Keywords: Color, color perception, color therapy, environment, environment design, health, milieu therapy.
