Abstract [sv]

Syfte.

Abstract [en]

Aim. The aim of this study was to investigate scientific research concerning how patients experience care, information and rehabilitation after suffering a stroke. The questions included what experience stroke patients have in terms of nursing and rehabilitation, what they value in these areas and if patients consider to have received adequate and satisfying information and knowledge about stroke and subsequent rehabilitation. Method. A review with a phenomenological approach to compile scientific, qualitative research. Background. Stroke is an umbrella term for infarction of the brain and is one of the most common diseases in Sweden. Stroke affects approximately 30,000 people annually in Sweden and more than 80% of those who suffer a stroke are over 65 years of age. The prolonged aging of the Swedish population entails an increased risk of more cases of people being affected by strokes, as the risks of being affected rises substantially with age. Prognoses indicate that the number of incidence will increase. Therefore, it may be of great importance to increase knowledge of how patients' experience nursing after being affected by stroke. Results. The result has been divided into three themes with subcategories where the main conclusions are reported. The majority of patients have a positive experience of care and a positive attitude to the rehabilitation process after stroke. The importance of motivation and that the patient's has an active part in the process of recovery is highlighted in the results. The experience of adequate information, however, was variable and many patients felt that they had received inadequate or unfitted information about their medical condition.
