Trots att hjärtinfarkt fortfarande är den enskilt vanligaste dödsorsaken i Sverige har överlevnadsstatistiken ständigt ökat under det senaste decenniet. Syftet med denna systematiska litteraturstudie var att undersöka patientens upplevelse av att ha drabbats av hjärtinfarkt med fokus på upplevelse av mening, lidande och den mellanmänskliga relationen med sjuksköterskan. En modifierad version av Goodmans sju steg nyttjades som metod. Resultatet visar att en andlig övertygelse hos patienten kan hjälpa denne att finna mening med sitt insjuknande. Patienterna upplevde lidande i form av fatigue, fysiska begränsningar, oro inför framtiden, rädsla inför döden, förlust av kontroll samt ett förändrat självförtroende. I relationen med sjuksköterskan upplevde patienterna stöd och trygghet men likaså att de inte blev sedda eller att utrymme inte gavs för deras existentiella funderingar. Det är av vikt att sjuksköterskan har förståelse för patientens upplevelse då detta möjliggör en individanpassning av omvårdnaden och skapar mer gynnsamma förutsättningar för sjuksköterskan att identifiera patientens resurser och förmåga till egenvård.

Despite the fact that myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death in Sweden, the numbers of survivors have constantly increased over the last decade. The aim of this systematic literature review was to explore the patient´s experience of having a myocardial infarction with focus on the experience of meaning, suffering and the human to human relationship with the nurse. A modified version of Goodman´s seven steps was used as method. The results showed that a spiritual conviction could guide the patient to find meaning in the situation. The patients experienced suffering in terms of fatigue, physical limitations, anxiety about the future, fear of death, loss of control and changed self-esteem. In the human to human relationship with the nurse, patients experienced support and safety but also that they were not really acknowledged by the health-care personnel, neither that any space were given for their existential reflections. Understanding patient´s experience makes it possible for the nurse to individualize care and identify the patient´s resources and ability to self-care.
