Abstract [en]

THE MEETING BETWEEN SOCIAL WELFARE SECRETARIES AND YOUTHS SOCIAL WELFARE SECRETARIES' PERSPECTIVES ON THE MEETING WITH CLIENTS PLACED IN RESIDENTIAL CARE HOMES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS CEREN NERGIZ Nergiz C, (2018). The meeting between social welfare secretaries and youths. Social welfare secretaries' perspectives on the meeting with clients placed in residential care homes for children and young persons. Bachelor Thesis in Social Work, 15 credit points. Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Insitution for Social Work. The aim of this study is to explore and analyze how social welfare secretaries who are employed at residential care homes for children and young persons perceive the professional meeting between them and the youths. What are important factors that determine the outcome of the meeting? Residential care homes for children and young persons is a form of institution, with limited research about the professional meetings that occurs there. Therefore, in order to gain knowledge about their experiences of the professional meeting, this study was implemented through four qualitative, semi structured interviews with social welfare secretaries. My questions are: How does the social welfare secretaries define an professional encounter, which factors affect the professional encounter between social welfare secretaries and clients and how is a positive/less positive client encounter described by the social welfare secretaries? The informants' statements were later on analyzed and assessed through communications and emphaty theory and previous research. All the social welfare secretaries in this study have a degree in Social Work and long experience of having meetings with youths. They work in different residental care homes in Skåne, but with the same target group, which is youths between 14-18 years with issues with acting out. The main conclusions from the result of this study shows that the professional meetings between social welfare secretaries and clients is the most important part of their work, both in order to motivate clients to change their situation and for informational purposes. The study also showed that lack of time and organizational resources is the biggest issue when it comes to giving clients a personal and individual treatment during a meeting.
