Bakgrund: Etik och moral är något som ständigt finns närvarande i sjuksköterskans dagliga arbete. Moralisk stress uppstår när en person vet hur hon/han önskar handla, men hindras från att utföra sin handling. Syfte: Syftet var att kartlägga i vilka situationer som sjuksköterskan upplever moralisk stress. Metod: Litteraturstudie genom analys av 10 vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultat: Det är framför allt den livsuppehållande vården, personalbrist, att arbeta med personal som har bristfällig kompetens och patientens behov av autonomi som skapar moralisk stress hos sjuksköterskan. När sjuksköterskan upplever moralisk stress kan det bidra till att vården av patienten blir bristfällig eftersom ett undvikande beteende kan uppkomma. Den moraliska stressen tycks öka med arbetslivserfarenheten eftersom den kliniska blicken utvecklas med tiden. Stressen ökar när sjuksköterskan inte känner att hon/han får gehör från läkaren för de symtom som observeras hos patienten. Det är viktigt att det finns forum där sjuksköterskan kan diskutera moraliska dilemman för att det etiska klimatet på arbetsplasten ska uppfattas som positivt och generera mindre moralisk stress.

Background: Ethics and morality is something that is constantly present in the nurse's daily work. Moral distress occurs when a person knows how he/she wishes to act, but is prevented from performing his or hers actions. Aim: Identify situations in which nurses experience moral distress. Method: Literature review by analysis of 10 scientific articles. Results: It is above all the life-sustaining care, staff shortages, working with staffs that have inadequate skills and patient autonomy that create moral distress of nurses. When nurses experience moral distress the care of the patient might become deficient, since avoidance behaviour may occur. The moral stress appears to increase with work experience since the clinical eye tends to evolve over time. Stress increases when the nurses not feel that they are heard from the doctor for the symptoms observed in the patient. It is important that there are forums where the nurse can discuss the moral dilemmas, so the ethical climate at the work should be perceived more positive and generate less moral distress.
