Ljusdesign är ett av elementen som är med och skapar stämning till teater. Jag har undersökt att belysa föremål med lågt placerade ljuskällor för att framhäva skuggor som jag undersöker om de kan skapa dramatik till en teaterscen. Undersökningarna har jag gjort i tre steg. Först egna experiment med att skapa skuggor. Sedan har jag visat en kort scen tre gånger med olika ljusvariationer för allmänheten och sist intervjuade jag ljusdesigners inom teater om användandet av skuggor. Genom mina experiment och genom intervjuerna framkom det att föremål med mycket hålighet är mer intressant att belysa än ett föremål med lite hålighet. Föremålets hålighet ger en skugga med mycket kontraster och det är kontraster som gör en skugga intressant. Min undersökning för en publik resulterade i att scenen kan uppfattas som mer dramatisk med skuggor som skapas med lågt placerade ljuskällor, men att det behövs andra element också för att alla i publiken ska få samma upplevelse.

Lightning design is one of the element which create the atmosphere in the theatre. I have investigated to illumine object with light sources that is placed low to emphize shadows which I have investigetet if they can create dramatics to the theatre scene. The investigation is made in three steps. First I experimented with diffrent ways of creating shadows by myself. Then I showed an audience a short scene three times with diffrent lighting variations. And last I interviewed lighting designers for theatre about the use of these shadows. Through my experiment and the interviews it appeared that an object with more cavity is more interesting to illumine than a object with less cavity. The objects cavity gives a shadow with much contrasts. And it is the contrasts which make the shadow interesting. My investingation with the audience showed that a scene can be perceived more dramatic with shadows but that it need other elements too ensure all the audiense get the same experience.
