This report covers methodology, research, and design process of my Thesis Project I: Smart Home but Human Guests. The intention is to investigate how smart homes could be designed to be more flexible and adaptable to the complex interactions happening in it, with a particular focus on the role of guests in the smart home experience. Throughout the study, I conduct quantitative and qualitative research, workshops and rapid prototyping with the intention of identifying meaningful interactions and insights. The result is a prototype of an open source hub for smart appliances capable to temporarily include guests in the home automations, an analysis of the research and challenges, and an exploration of how this technology could be shaped further and deployed.
