Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this thesis was to, through user-centered design (ACD) and early involvement of end-users in the process, try to increase the chances of survival for professional fishermen if they are caught in fishing line gear, fallen overboard and risk drowning.
Previous research studied for this work is ACD, ergonomics and semiotics. The methods used were participant observation, interview, empowerment exercise, market analysis, brainstorming, sketching, conceptualization, functional analysis, requirements specification and prototyping.
The results showed that good experience was provided by understanding the end-user's situation early in the process of obtaining the right product concept and then developing the final product together with the respondents. The final conclusion is that early involvement of the end user through an ACD process was necessary in order to not miss important requirements functions, such as application handiness. Without early involvement by the end users, it is possible that the goal of the product might have failed and not increased the chances of survival in the accident situation.
