Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the responsibilities of dentists
and dental technicians in the interprofessional collaboration and compare it with the legal basis
of the National Board of Social Services and other legal bodies.
Material and method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted to examine what the
participants think their profession should include and what they believe they do in practice. Out
of four selected divisions, individuals from three groups were interviewed: Private dentists in
Skåne (TLP), dental laboratories in Skåne (TTL) and students at Malmö University, Faculty of
Dentistry (UNIS).
Results: Answers are presented both quantitatively and through selected quotes. The majority
deemed that the dentists are responsible for the selection of materials, elements of design and
design drawings, and that both dental technicians and dentists are partaking in making the
choices. A discrepancy between the three categories appeared in the distribution of
responsibilities in the choice of materials where the opinions were shared between booth being
responsible and it only being the dentist's responsibility. The other two categories (elements of
design and design drawings) clearly show that the majority consider it only the dentist's
responsibility. Some divergent views arose between both the professional groups as well as
within a professional group.
Conclusion: A general unanimity was found in the results, confirming that there is consensus.
Delegation of therapy planning was noted, which shows that there is a difference in theoretical
and actual responsibility in the individual case.
