Abstract [en]

This article reports on a case study. The author is the mother to a son who, after having been cared for at home by his wife, mother, mother-in-law, and a palliative home care team, died from cancer when he was 38 years old. The mother's grief and bereavement symptoms during the first year of grief and the support given to her are described in a narrative that is interpreted and analyzed 2 years after her son's death. Information, control, empathy, and shared experiences and concepts that emerged out of the analysis are discussed. The findings point to a need for customizing bereavement support specifically for high-risk mourners.
