School Inclusion Work in Practice : How are Students with NDD Included (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to highlight how inclusion work and practical conditions are experienced by school staff in their work with students with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). The study is based on a qualitative method in which semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven professionals working in schools. The results indicate that inclusion work in school for students with NDD is influenced by several factors. The main finding suggests that resources alone are not sufficient, and that staff competence is crucial in enabling inclusion. At the same time, relationship-building is described as a prerequisite for learning and should in some cases be prioritized over teaching. The results also show that exclusionary solutions may be used to achieve as a means of achieving inclusion in practice. Furthermore, the findings indicate that all informants work towards inclusion in school based on their own capacity. However, the professionals differ in their views on how inclusion should be implemented in practice. School staff express that there are challenges in inclusion work due to the organizational conditions within schools, which affects students with NDD’s access to support.
