Supported Employment : A Litterature Review on Support in Work for People with Mental Disabilities (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Work is a central part of people's living conditions and is closely linked to participation, identity and health. At the same time, people with mental disabilities generally have a weaker position in the labour market. Supported Employment (SE) is a occupational rehabilitation method that has been developed to support people to get and keep a job in the regular labour market. Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is a specific model within SE, specifically focused on supporting people with mental disabilities to get, regain or keep a job. The aim of the study is to describe what occupational support within SE and IPS looks like after entry into work for people with mental disabilities, within Swedish research. The study was conducted as a scoping study where 11 studies were identified through systematic database searches and analysed using thematic analysis. The results show that the support does not appear as a uniform or delimited intervention, but as a process where content, organisation and duration are interconnected in practice. The support includes both practical and emotional dimensions that are provided in parallel in work-related situations. The importance of the relationship between the individual and the support person emerges as central, as does continuity over time. Furthermore, the support is shaped in relation to both individual needs and organizational conditions.
