Lilla Aktuellt skola is a weekly newscast directed to children aged 9-13 and is a commonly used educational tool in SO in 4-6. The purpose with our thesis is to highlight the differences in the use of Lilla aktuellt skola and the teaching of news within different areas of Malmö, Helsingborg and Lund. We used a quantitative method where we had a survey sent out to every school in the three cities with questions about their teaching about news. The study concluded that the teachers in the segregated areas of the cities did not have a compensatory approach or used the show differently from how the teachers in the areas with socioeconomic better conditions did. Another conclusion was that most of the teachers had a mixed approach where they were both objective and open to the pupil´s opinions in the classroom. This strategy makes students better critical thinkers and helps them get more democratic competence. Meanwhile, it keeps pupils engaged and supports them in developing their own opinions and expressing them in a respectful and democratic way.
