Abstract [en]

The practices of penciling and inking affects how comics are made as well as the experience of reading them. They entail materials and tools which dates back into history and are closely connected to different printing techniques – from lithography to digital publication. But even though these practices are crucial to comics production, little interest have been directed towards their materiality in Comics studies. The same goes for tutorials, handbooks and courses on comics. It is as if they are taken for granted.  This presentation aims at presenting an overview of the materiality of penciling and inking in regards of their history, etymology and practical implementation.
