Abstract: The Thesis is concerned with regional and global organisations' response to internal crises on the African Continent. The Analysis is guided by a Case Study of the conflict in Mali. This research is relevant because, as the nature of war and the concept of sovereignty continue to evolve—and as regional organizations increasingly reflect and act on these changes—it is essential to assess the role these actors can play in conflict resolution. The thesis is aimed at discovering this. The legal frameworks examined are the AUCA, the ECOWAS Mechanism and Protocol and the UNC regarding Sovereignty, Peacekeeping and the use of force/R2P. The study has shown that these instruments can work in a subsidiary manner, providing a more comprehensive response to conflict.
