Abstract [sv]

Studien syftar till att förstå vilka motiv som ligger bakom unga medieanvändares engagemang inom digital aktivism, samt hur detta påverkar deras identitetsskapande. Genom kvalitativ intervju som metod, har vi gjort en studie för att besvara forskningens två frågeställningar. Intervjuerna har genomförts med både män och kvinnor i åldrarna 22-28 år, för att delges enskilda perspektiv och reflektioner kopplade till studiens syfte och frågeställningar. Insamlat material från intervjuerna har analyserats utifrån två relevanta teoretiska perspektiv, och jämförts med tidigare forskningsresultat inom liknande forskningsområde. Resultatet av studien visar att unga medieanvändare främst drivs av inre motiv i deras engagemang. Vidare visar studiens resultat att unga medieanvändare anser att deras digitala aktivistiska engagemang har en påverkan på deras identitetsskapande, både den individuella, såväl som den kollektiva identiteten. 

Abstract [en]

This study aims to explore the motivations behind young media users engagement in digital activism, as well as how this engagement influences their identity formation. Using qualitative interviews as a method, we conducted a study to answer the research questions. The interviews were carried out with both men and women aged 22–28, providing individual perspectives and reflections related to the study's purpose and research questions. The collected data was analyzed through two relevant theoretical frameworks and compared with prior research in similar fields. The findings indicate that young media users are primarily driven by intrinsic motivations in their engagement. Additionally, the results highlight that digital activism significantly influences identity formation, both personal identity as well as shaping group identity.
