Could they really have built that? : A rhetorical analysis of Ancient Aliens from a postcolonial perspective (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the visual rhetoric that appears in the television series Ancient Aliens. This is done from a postcolonial perspective with the purpose of examining how the rhetorical arguments are related to the representation of Egypt by the creators of the program and how it relates to postcolonial theories, Orientalism and Egyptomania. This is done by examining two sequences from the first episode of Ancient Aliens and analyzing its ethos, logos and pathos in relation to post-colonialism. The analyses show several colonial themes that pervade the series and how it presents its arguments.

The media production aims to increase children's interest in the local history of Uppsala through a visually engaging and educational animation. The video was created with Uppsala Castle Museum as the sender but showcases several different locations in Uppsala, explaining their history with the help of animated characters and a narrator
