Abstract
This research paper examines Wilhelm von Humboldt;s philosophy of Bildung and how it’s portrayed in Samira Makhmalbaf’s film The Apple. The study looks at how education promotes both societal change and overall human development, going beyond just vocational training. This study explores Humboldt’s educational philosophy, emphasizing intellectual progress, moral development, and active involvement with the world by showing the autobiographical journey of the main characters through the film’s story. In addition, the paper advocates for lifelong learning and individual autonomy while highlighting the interaction between Bildung and democracy. Furthermore, the film’s portrayal of gender roles, the transformational potential of education, and the importance of language and expression are all examined in contemporary societal settings. The study goes on to address how Iranian cinema’s use of cinematic narrative may provide complex insights into cultural identity and human development. The study emphasizes the long-lasting influence of Humboldtian Bildung in promoting personal growth and collective advancement through an interdisciplinary approach.
