This thesis examines the challenges that remote workers experience with a focus on their emotional and social well-being. The findings showed that isolation was one of the most challenging problems remote workers encountered and that they missed being surrounded by their colleagues. The project's final design is a soundscape system that allows users to choose between five different dynamic soundscapes with natural sounds designed to contribute to a feeling of being present with and surrounded by colleagues. This study is relevant to interaction design as it explores new ways colleagues can interact while working remotely. Moreover, this study contributes to interaction design by pointing out the shortcomings of existing commercial virtual platforms and collaboration tools when it comes to creating a sense of presence among coworkers.
