Navigating the Intersection of Gender and Race : Challenges Faced by Foreign-Born Female Leaders in Sweden (engelsk)
Abstract [en]
This thesis investigates the challenges foreign-born women face in leadership roles, focusingon the intersection of gender and race. The study explores how gender and race intersect inthe experiences of female leaders from non-Nordic backgrounds in the private sector. Ithighlights the visible and invisible barriers to leadership, diversity, and inclusion inorganizations through structural and role theories, as well as intersectionality. Using a socialconstructionist approach, this is a qualitative case study that uses interview-based methods. The research identifies two emerging categories of themes: "Leadership and InclusiveOrganizations" and "Challenges," which include three tracks, such as being a woman, being aforeign-born woman, and invisible obstacles. The findings reveal that expectations and normsimpact the accessibility of leadership roles for foreign-born women. The study contributes toa broader understanding of the challenges faced by female foreign-born leaders andunderscores barriers that limit their access to leadership positions. Keywords:
