Title [sv]
Malmös HBTQI-historia
Title [en]
The LGBTQIA+ history of Malmö
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The history of LGBTQIA+ people's lives and experiences has long been the unwritten story. In recent decades, this has changed and at present, there are a number of presentations, both scientific and more popular, that focus on how LGBTQIA+ people have lived their lives in Sweden. A strength of several contributions is to highlight the importance of the place.

For example, both Stockholm's and Gothenburg's LGBTQIA+ history has been written, but there is still a lack of history writing that geographically encompasses Malmö. The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge about Malmö's LGBTQIA+ history among Malmö residents and visiting tourists through a popular science anthology, to create understanding between people with different backgrounds and visibility for groups who for many periods of history have been forced to live their lives in secret.

The aim is also to make new academic research available to the general public and to create bridges between academia and idea-driven organizations that work with LGBTQIA+ issues. The book will be launched in connection with World Pride in August 2021, when we will also carry out city walks and launch an app and a physical map connected to the book's research results (in collaboration with Malmö City Archives and the app Be here then).

Abstract [en]

The anthology Queera historier från Malmö (Queer histories from Malmö) was created between June 2020 and August 2021. The initiative came from two associate professors at a Swedish university. However, most of the chapters in the anthology were written by people outside the academy. This article is co-written by two of the writers and the two initiators and editors of the anthology. It is an attempt of emancipatory writing where different thoughts on the process in which the anthology was created meet each other. By keeping the text open and dialogical, the aim has been to shift the positions – here, the editors should no longer be those who commented on the writers’ texts, but instead those who received comments and remarks. In this, the somewhat chaotic creative process of co-created storytelling is made visible, and the article becomes a knowledge contribution concerning power dynamics in co-writing as well as to local LGBTQ history.
