Att använda erfarenheter utanför ordinarie utbildningskontext- Studentens utveckling mot professionell kompetens2008Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Interpersonal competences, empathy, perspective taking and ability to make judgements are examples of important parts of teachers’ and social workers’ professional competences. The pedagogical idea of this project was to develop such competences using experiences students acquire outside ordinary higher education while working temporarily or being active in organizations like youth clubs, the scouts etc. Eight groups of students (from teacher education, social work education, and a mentoring program called Näktergalen) participated in the project, each with their own faculty leader. Students wrote and told a story deriving from a personal experience, rewrote and retold it from the perspective of another in the story, discussed together different perspectives and alternative outcomes, and also acted out the stories in forum plays.

Mentorskap för barn och unga2011Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Developing Professional Competences through Building Narratives of Life Experiences2007Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The paper presents an ongoing project on how student teachers in Sweden can make use of experiences they acquire outside ordinary higher education in order to develop important parts of their professional competences such as empathy, perspective taking and ability to make judgements. These experiences could be temporarily working as assistants in schools, as care takers, mentors/tutors, leisure time/sport leaders or being active in organizations like youth clubs, the scouts etc. Students in teacher education and social work programmes and mentors (higher education students) in a mentoring project take part in a number of group seminars. In the seminars methods have been developed to make use of the students’ experiences in the form of personal narratives.

The Nightingale Scheme - A Song For The Heart2007Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This book is about a series of encounters which had an immediate impact and left a lasting impression. For over a period of ten years, Nightingale has facilitated nine hundred such meetings between individual children of age 8-12 and University students. These are meetings where the differences between both sides have been an advantage, as the whole idea was to get to see the "other" person as an individual and not as a spokesperson for a particular group, religion or ethnic identity. This book can be seen as a record of Nightingale's achievements to date in the context of celebrations surrounding its 10 year anniversary. It seeks to convey the philosophy, aims and practical targets which inform the whole project, whilst at the same time giving a voice to the children, mentors and parents involved. Fourteen interviews have been made with children (now of high school age) who once had a mentor. These interviews are an important part of the book.

Forskarnas galleri #3: Space & Place: forskning om social hållbarhet i Malmö2017Artistic output (Unrefereed)
    Abstract [en]

The city of Malmö inhabits about 330,000 people. Half of them are under 35 years and one fifth is under 18 years old. In Space & Place two research groups present how children and adolescents experience some of the urban spaces in Malmö. The exhibition highlights different methods in the research process. These research projects are examples of how Malmö University contributes to a socially sustainable Malmö.
