Problemformulering:

Vid Malmö universitet har både bibliotekets tillgänglighetsgrupp och annan personal som arbetar med pedagogiskt stöd märkt en ökning i antalet studenter som söker hjälp i sina studier. Omkring 8% av Malmö universitets studenter använder talbokstjänsten Legimus. För att säkerställa att dessa studenter kan studera på lika villkor som andra är det av stor vikt att undersöka deras erfarenheter och attityder till universitetets stödinsatser. Syftet med studien var att undersöka studenternas erfarenheter av att studera med talböcker och andra stödprogram, samt hur de upplever det stöd som biblioteket erbjuder. 

Metod:

För att undersöka studenternas erfarenheter av att studera med lässtöd genomfördes en fokusgruppsstudie. Studien föregicks av en enkät som hösten 2021 skickades till studenter som haft talboksgenomgång samma termin, där deltagarna tillfrågades om hur de upplevde talboksgenomgången samt om deras attityder till de stödprogram som erbjuds.   Deltagare till fokusgrupperna rekryterades via enkäten. En fokusgrupp med fyra studenter genomfördes på plats i biblioteket och en fokusgrupp med tre studenter genomfördes via Zoom under våren 2022. Intervjuerna tog omkring en timme. Två bibliotekarier närvarande vid fokusgrupperna där en fungerade som moderator/samtalsledare och en tog anteckningar. Intervjuerna spelades också in. Materialet från inspelningarna transkriberades sedan till text. Transkriberingen bearbetades därefter genom att teman identifierades, sammanställdes och analyserades.

Resultat:

Legimus och andra stödverktyg har en stor betydelse i deltagarnas studievardag. Flera uttryckte att de inte hade tagit steget att börja studera om de inte hade känt till att stödet fanns, och att de hade haft det mycket svårare att klara studierna utan stöd. Studenterna uppgav bland annat att stödprogrammen förbättrar deras läshastighet och arbetsminne samt hjälper dem att strukturera sina studier. Lika viktigt som de pedagogiska aspekterna är det emotionella stöd som stödprogrammen medför. Flera av deltagarna berättade att Legimus besparat dem mycket stress och oro. Tillgången till kurslitteraturen i talboksform har en lugnande effekt och hjälper studenterna att komma igång med studierna. Stödprogrammen har också gett deltagarna en större självständighet och självförtroende i studierna.  Studenterna är i huvudsak nöjda med bemötandet de fått av lärare och annan personal vid Malmö universitet. Personlig kontakt med representanter från universitetet är av stor vikt och underlättar för studenterna att ta till sig viktig information. En vanlig utmaning för deltagarna är att ständigt behöva påtala fall av bristande tillgänglighet och att “stå upp för sig själv”. Brister i talsyntes togs upp som ett problem, dels upplevs rösterna som tråkiga och monotona, vilket försvårar koncentrationen, dels förhindras förståelsen av felaktigt uttal och betoning. Andra problem är sena tillägg till kurslitteraturen och böcker som enbart finns tillgängliga som talbok utan text. Studenterna efterfrågade också bättre utformade hemsidor med mindre text och mer video samt ökad kunskap om läsnedsättningar bland lärare och annan personal. Studien synliggör den avgörande roll som talböcker och andra stödinsatser spelar för att tillgängliggöra högre studier för studenter med läsnedsättningar och pekar på ett behov av insatser för att ytterligare förbättra stödet. Studien belyser också vikten av gott bemötande och personlig kontakt, där bibliotekarien kan spela en viktig roll i mötet med studenter med läsnedsättningar.

Våren 2022 hade Malmö universitetsbibliotek 1 925 aktiva Legimusanvändare av totalt 24 000 studenter vid lärosätet. Detta innebär att omkring 8% av Malmö universitets studenter använder Legimus, vilket kan jämföras med Lunds universitet, där omkring 3% av studenterna använde Legimus under 2021.

Som ett led i att förbättra arbetet med studenter med läsnedsättningar genomförde biblioteket under våren 2022 en kvalitativ fokusgruppsstudie med studenter som använder Legimus och andra stödverktyg, för att undersöka deras erfarenheter av att studera med talböcker och deras attityder till bibliotekets stöd.

In spring 2021, the authors of this article ran staff focus groups to explore stories about the impact of COVID-19 on the librarians who work at Malmö university library. In what way have their work tasks and the work situation changed during the COVID-19 pandemic? What have they learned from the experiences and what do they want to develop after the pandemic? Three strong themes emerged: the digital shift, remote working and the library as place. The findings were that the pandemic has created a reality of remote working and learning in higher education. In designing the future library we need to capitalise on the gains of the digitalisation as well as address the potential issues, including loneliness, isolation and motivation. 

Forskarnas galleri är en plats för tvärvetenskaplig samverkan där universitetets forskning gestaltas i form av utställningar. Detta sker i en samproduktion mellan bibliotekarier och universitetets forskare. I kapitlet beskrivs bibliotekariens roll som kurator för utställningarna.

At Malmö University, research questions often arise in collaboration between researchers, citizens, practitioners and sectors. This research is important to communicate because an open dialogue between science and society contributes to the use and understanding of the research results. In the project "The Researchers' Gallery", librarians and researchers collaborate to visualize the research in an exhibition at the library. The work establishes a platform for meetings and interdisciplinary cooperation. The gallery offers visitors both informal learning and active research communication.

Slutrapport för projekt om ny bibliotekssystemmiljö. Projektets syfte var att få fram ett beslutsunderlag för hur en ny eller förändrad bibliotekssystemmiljö kan stödja bibliotekets verksamhet från 2016. Detta innebär att:

• Undersöka behoven utifrån processer för att få fram lösningar som ökar nyttan och effektiviteten samt kvaliteten i verksamheten.
• Analysera konsekvenserna av olika alternativa lösningar för en kommande bibliotekssystemiljö.
• Skapa ett underlag med rekommendationer för beslut i ledningsgruppen.

Projektets syfte var att etablera en funktion och att införa ett arbetssätt kring tillgängliggörande av forskningsdata, samt att förankra tillgängliggörandet av forskningsdata i ledning och forskning. Det betyder även att projektet syftade till att upprätta en lokal DAU senast 2020 som en del av den nationella infrastrukturen som erbjuds genom SND. Projektet var en fortsättning på Malmö högskolas deltagande i SND:s pilotprojekt.

Artiklen handler om arbejdet med at fusionere Malmö högskolas 5 biblioteker. En kort gennemgang af Malmö högskolas historie samt forudsætningerne for biblioteksvirksomheden og –organisationen. Milepælene i fusionen beskrives. Betydningen af fælles vision og mål, udabejdelse af fælles regler og værdisæt, fælles kundekursus for alt bibliotekspersonale i bestræbelserne på at opnå en vellykket fusion understreges. Fusionens faser både på det menneskelige og det praktiske plan gennemgås. Nøgleord for fusionen af Malmö högskolas biblioteker har været og er: Planlægning, værdidebat, jobbytte, ordvalg, information og delagtighed.

The project "Open Educational Resources in institutional repositories” has been carried out in collaboration between Göteborg university, University of Borås, Malmö university, Stockholm university, Uppsala university and Metamatrix AB, during the period March 2008 - April 2009. The project has been funded by the OpenAccess.se programme of the National Library of Sweden. Within the project we have gathered unique empirical data from five Swedish universities, to shed light on and further develop the efforts of the universities regarding the following issues - can institutional repositories also accommodate the locally produced OER (open educational resources)? - to which extent are teachers at Swedish universities using and producing OER today? Survey of the use and production of OER In spring 2008 we conducted our survey of educational resources at five Swedish universities. Surveys and interviews show that the concept of OER, and even the concept of digital learning resources is still new to many, but digital learning resources are used by over 50% of the teachers participating in the studies. The willingness to share them with others is relatively high. There are relatively many teachers who occasionally use OER (50% of respondents), and far fewer daily users of OER (6%). Among the teachers who do not make use of OER, more than half do not know what it is, or how to use them. Almost 70 percent of the teaching staff who answered the survey produces their own educational resources. The strongest drivers to produce their own material, according to questionnaire responses, is to supplement lectures and for materials to be reusable in other courses. PowerPoint presentations, PDF files and Word files are the most common formats. The proportion of those who also choose to share their material is higher than we first expected, nearly 50%. Their main motives are to provide useful information to others, followed by the view that information should be freely available. The interviews show a slightly more nuanced picture, highlighting the benefits of OER and opportunities for new pedagogical approaches and methods. Several of our respondents agree that universities would benefit from providing an opportunity to publish educational resources. OER in institutional repositories? Existing systems We then used the results of the survey to develop and explore the existing functionality of the two most commonly used institutional repository platforms in Sweden; Diva and DSpace. We found that there is a need for more elaborate use of OER than the institutional repositories allow for, for example built-in viewers and possibilities to edit and work on deposited OER. At the same time, we also find that the institutional repositories are superior in enabling dissemination and visibility of their content, and not only so for student theses and research publications. We see both advantages and disadvantages of making OER available through institutional repositories. To avoid building new systems or hiding educational resources in traditional learning management systems: the institutional repositories offer open interfaces (e.g. via XML Web services and OAI-PMH) for the dissemination of OER to systems where the more elaborate usability can be obtained - this while universities can maintain visibility and marketing of their intellectual output in one service. Future systems Within the project we have then, with support from the surveys, the practical tests and based on the functionality of Diva and DSpace, developed prototypes and support to universities that want to work with OER. Strategic issues Both in the survey as well as in the practical tests, we have experienced related issues, where more information is needed and good examples of how the work can be organised to benefit the development locally. Issues important for both teaching and management staff: copyright; incentives for the use and development of OER, and cost-benefit analyses. One issue is the balance between research and teaching activities. It is a relatively complex issue related to managements’ priorities and how to profile the institutional trademarks. In this context, a sensitive issue regards research, which has always been merited higher than teaching. The surveys show that there are no policies or guidelines regarding the use and production of OER. A number of recommendations to the management at institutions and universities who want to increase the use of OER were formulated. The respondents perceive neither their teaching nor their production of OER as a priority or a merit. If this is desirable, there is a need for; - support and information in these areas; and - better visibility of work with OER in policies and guidelines, together with strengthened career incentives. Incentives do not have to come from the universities own management, it could also be interesting to see good examples promoted, in order to create motivation and awareness.

In the context of Swedish students' difficulties to separate facts from opinions, we wanted to investigate why digital literacy, and especially source credibility, is important and how teachers in civics and the social sciences can teach students these skills. Studies show that upper secondary school students often turn to online sources when searching for information, rather than turning to traditional media. This is not a problem in itself, however, what is worrying is that the increasing spread of disinformation in combination with the lack of methods to verify true information adventures students' formation of opinions. In a society where young people consume more and more digital media this is truly alarming for future citizens and democracy. Therefore, in this literature review based on previous research, we give multiple reasons for why digital literacy, and especially source credibility, is important.

But how should civics teachers teach digital literacy? This text also gives the tools by presenting four principles for guidance when planning classes where digital literacy will be taught. Furthermore, we present the idea of digital literacy as an active act and we also talk about the importance of examining each source from more than one perspective. Disciplinary literacy and the necessity of the teacher’s role as a disciplinary expert is also discussed in this paper. We then present and stress the importance of the three types of misinformation and give a few suggestions on how to use them. The next finding in our search for how to teach digital literacy to students is the benefits of working in a group of peers. Our take from this is that, in order to get out of your own “echo chamber”, group work can bring a set of different backgrounds, opinions and knowledge to the table when trying to make sense of everything the internet has to offer, good and bad.

The Researchers' Gallery at Malmö University Library shows current research in exhibitions, co-created bylibrarians and researchers. The library invites all visitors to take part in and learn more about the research processand outcome. In an academic yet informal setting, the library offers a credible space for research communication.The Researchers' Gallery is a space for students, researchers and the society to meet, and encourage cross-borderknowledge creation. The Researchers’ Gallery has become a platform for continuing collaboration betweenresearchers and between researchers and librarians. Exhibited research now has a natural and an integrated placein the learning environment of the library and at the university

Myndigheten för nätverk och samarbete inom högre utbildning (NSHU) och Kungl. biblioteket/BIBSAM har under 2006 finansierat Matriks, ett utvecklingsprojekt vars huvudsyfte har varit att skapa ett nätverk för återanvändning och kommentering av digitala lärresurser inom matematik. I samband med projektets avslutande har en utvärdering av två externa personer utförts på uppdrag av NSHU och KB/BIBSAM, och föreligger här. Utvärderingen syftar till att ge en mer generell bild av nyttan med återanvändning av digitala lärresurser och behoven av att externt finansiera en vidare verksamhet. Utvärderingen ska enligt givet uppdrag besvara följande frågor: Har projektet uppnått de uppsatta målen? Om så icke skett, hur ska det förklaras?; Vilka allmänna slutsatser kan man dra utifrån projektet för fortsatta insatser inom området digitala lärresurser, t.ex. med avseende på nyttan av att återanvända digitala lärresurser, för den enskilde läraren eller lärosätet (effektivitet/tidsvinst) - pedagogiskt värde och pedagogiska svårigheter med att återanvända digitala lärresurser. - vilka lärresurser har en potential för användning och återanvändning; - incitament för lärare att använda digitala lärresurser som andra skapat och incitament för att skapa delbara resurser; - användbarhet av externt producerat material (i detta fall specifikt URs material); potential i peer-to-peer nätverk i förhållande till traditionella arkiv; - vinster och problem med anknytningen till etablerade bibliotekssystem, särsk. frågor kring klassifikation och katalogisering av digitala lärresurser; anpassning och översättning av LOM och andra digitala standarder till LIBRIS och MARC21; synliggörande av digitala lärresurser i LIBRIS och andra bibliotekskataloger. Utvärderingen är tänkt att utgöra ett beslutsunderlag för NSHU och KB/BIBSAM och innehåller rekommendationer för hur myndigheterna bör gå vidare med arbetet kring digitala lärresurser generellt och specifikt inom matematik.

This one-day workshop invites discussion on the various socio-technical processes and dynamics that characterize scale and scaling in local, community-sited initiatives. Seeking to move beyond a view of scale as mere growth in numbers and a matter of technology-mediated replication, the workshop aims at developing a nuanced vocabulary to talk about various forms of scale and practices of scaling in CSCW research. It will bring together interdisciplinary scholars, activists, practitioners and representatives of the public sector who wish to question and further develop the notion of scale generally associated with processes of upscaling. The workshop provides a forum to discuss:i) concepts, theories and empirical cases that broaden our view of what constitutes scale; andii) the implications for CSCW research in assessing the long-term impact and sustenance of socio-technical innovations. The workshop will accommodate up to twenty participants and will be run virtually.

In this article, the Swedish findings from a European comparative study on 0–3-year-old children and their digital lives are presented and discussed in relation to domestication theory, including the concept of moral economy. More specifically, attention is paid to toddler’s appropriation of digital technology and the parents’ moral struggles: the negotia-tions between the parents concerning the introduction of digital media practices in early childhood, the selection of content, and the monitoring of children. Parents of very young children have ambivalent feelings towards digital media technologies and struggle to make the right decision for their children. The study demonstrates that the domestication of digi-tal technology in early childhood is far more multifaceted and troublesome for parents to handle than previous research has found.

Research Libraries, like other organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic, have been facing difficult choices concerning which services to offer, whilst minimising risk to their staff, communities, and users. As the post COVID-19 era beckons, library leaders are urged to adapt flexible strategic plans that apply to every facet of library operation to ensure the organisations remain both safe and resilient in the future.

This paper discusses leadership skills and practical techniques that can be applied to help build resilient libraries and deliver positive new change in the post-COVID-19 recovery period.

Our findings indicate that leaders need to find ways to realign library ambitions to this uncertain new operating environment. The focus should be directed to digitisation and supporting systems, as well as on sustainability and transformative services. These are a must for the future of libraries.

For thousands of years, physical objects have been used to represent data, in order to support cognition, communication and learning. Such representations, especially newly computer-supported ones, became the focus of an emerging field called data physicalization.

Although most physicalizations are passive (i.e., static), a growing number of active (i.e., dynamic) representations have been recently created. There is still, however, an immense opportunity in exploring interactive data physicalizations.

This thesis proposes a tangible artifact (a shovel equipped with orientation sensors) that could be used by visitors of Earth sciences museums. SuperTunnel Simulator calculates a hole through Earth, indicating where in the world visitors would end up if they dug in a certain direction.

Feedback from participants indicate such embodied interaction might influence learning by igniting visitors’ curiosity and stimulating hypothesis formulation. Finally, we point to research opportunities in conveying data not through an object’s shape, but through our interaction with it.

Malmö högskola ska som statlig myndighet följa Lagen (2012:492) om pliktexemplar av elektroniskt material, som träder i full kraft 2015. Rektor gav BIT i uppdrag 2015 “Att samordna högskolans arbete kring den nya epliktlagen.” För att utföra det uppdraget tillsatte BIT-chefen ett projekt med en projektgrupp sammansatt av representanter från arkivfunktionen, kommunikationsavdelningen och BIT.

Bibliotek från olika sektorer – om det så är skol-, folk-, sjukhus- eller högskolebibliotek – vilar på en gemensam värdegrund där demokratisk kunskapsdelning och fri åsiktsbildning är centrala värden.Trots det sker det sällan kompetensöverföring och utbyte mellan personal i de olika sektorerna. Genom regionala kompetensutvecklingsmedel  har bibliotekarier från olika bibliotekssektorer haft möjlighet att lära känna varandras verksamheter och målgrupper. Projektet Möjligheternas bibliotek undersöker hur bibliotekarier genom ett ökat samarbete och en fördjupad kunskap om andra typer av bibliotek, kan underlätta medborgarnas tillgångtill bibliotek genom det livslånga lärandet.
