Utveckling av Biobaserade Material : En Materialdriven Designmetod med Hästkastanjer, Hampa och Ull (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

This study aims to develop bio-based materials using locally sourced horse chestnuts, reinforced with hemp and wool. The goal is to explore and identify suitable applications for these materials within product design by taking a material driven approach. Material understanding and user participation play a pivotal role, as the notion of material experience will shape the design process. Sustainable development and the necessity to shift to a circular economy underpin the study, as it promotes bio-based materials from renewable resources. The outcome is a sound-absorbing panel that showcases the technical properties of the materials while reflecting users’ involvement through the use of biomimicry. This project highlights the potential of material driven design in creating bio-based materials, while also critically reflecting on its limitations.
