The Social Workers Role In Interprofessional Collaboration In The Municipal Health And Medical Care (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to get a picture of the social worker's experiences of their role in an interprofessional team within health care, which is done by interviewing social workers in a municipal administration with health care and rehabilitation as a central role. For this purpose, the following questions have formed the basis.

How do the professional social worker and the nurse experience the social workers role in the interprofessional collaboration within the municipal health and medical care?

What significance does the medical starting point within the municipal health and medical care have for the social workers handling space?

The method that has been used is the qualitative research method with semi-structured interviews. A total of five people, three social workers and two nurses, were interviewed, and with the help of hermeneutics as a methodological basis, the respondents' answers could be understood and conveyed as knowledge. The material was then analyzed and processed according to the thematic analysis method in six different phases. The results of the interviews were analyzed through previous research on the interprofessional collaboration within health care and the social worker's role in the collaboration. In addition to previous research, the interviews were also analyzed using profession as theory. The conclusions that were studied gave rise to the fact that social workers' role and scope of management is affected by a number of factors within the municipal health and medical care. These factors include, among other things, narrow specialization and difficulties in asserting one's area of expertise. The nurses strong autonomy in combination with the social workers narrow specialization means that the knowledge of the nurses is prioritized. The social worker is seen more as a leader than a social worker in the organization, which means that the social worker as a profession within the municipal health and medical care is regarded as weak.
