Design of Card Games and Inclusivity : An Analysis of Card Game Design and Its Function in Being Inclusive for People with Visual Impairment (English)
Abstract [en]
This essay aims to investigate whether the design of two different card games includes
individuals with visual impairments and how this group is accommodated in the design.
Specifically, we will focus on people who have significant visual impairments, such as those who rely on glasses but still face substantial visual limitations, rather than individuals who have mild impairments and can partially compensate with the use of corrective lenses.
The two card games studied in this essay are “We're Not Really Strangers” and “Interaktion för Svenskar”. I chose these card games randomly, and neither of them is specifically designed for people with visual impairments; they are simply normal card games. The essay explores how these games incorporate individuals who are visually impaired.
The results show that when designing card games for visually impaired players, the size of the cards and the text used are important factors to consider. The cards should be large enough to enable easy access to information, and the font should be set in a standard form, avoiding the use of all capital letters. Additionally, colors should be carefully selected to ensure they do not hinder accessibility.
