Preschool Teachers' Strategies for Multilingual Children : - (English)
Abstract [en]

This study delves into strategies aimed at facilitating language development and fostering active participation among multilingual preschoolers. Grounded in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, the research conducts in-depth interviews with experienced preschool educators, uncovering fundamental elements essential for effective teaching. The findings highlight the significance of inclusive learning environments, play, and visual aids as pivotal strategies. Play serves as a natural conduit for language growth, while visual supports function as mediating tools bridging linguistic gaps. The study emphasizes the pivotal role of everyday scenarios, such as mealtimes, where language is actively engaged. Reading aloud and encouraging communication in these contexts cultivate a linguistically enriching environment for children. Through a holistic lens on children's language progression and active involvement, the research offers practical recommendations for educational methodologies. This study not only provides insights into fostering multilingual children's language skills but also advocates for the incorporation of these strategies into educational practices. The research underscores the imperative for continued exploration of innovative teaching methods, advocating for inclusive language development to empower the diverse voices of young learners.
