Denna studie syftar till att analysera privatiseringen av Sveriges hälso- och sjukvård, ett land som historiskt och generellt har varit socialistiskt styrt, som även har ett hälso- och sjukvårdssystem som traditionellt har varit kontrollerat av regeringen och inte har haft många privata aktörer på denna marknad. Mer specifikt undersöker denna studie argumenten kring implementeringen av lagen om valfrihetssystem, LOV, som var en proposition från en tidigare svensk regering om en implementering av ett valfrihetssystem kring bland annat primärvårdscentraler. Dessa argument analyseras med två statsvetenskapliga teorier: nyinstitutionalism och rational choice-teorin. Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka om det finns några teoretiska aspekter som har lagt grunden för dessa argument. 

This study serves to analyze the privatization of the Swedish healthcare, a country that throughout history generally has been governed by a social democratic government, with a healthcare system that traditionally has been controlled by the government and not have had many private actors in the market. More specifically the study examines the arguments surrounding the implementation of ”lagen om valfrihetssystem”, LOV, which was a proposal from the Swedish government about implementing freedom of choice for the choosing of primary healthcare centers. These arguments are then analyzed through two political science theories: new institutionalism and rational choice theory. The aim is to examine if there are any theoretical aspects that has laid the foundation for these arguments.
