Conflict Management in a Dental Care Team : An Interview Study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this interview study is to describe how the dentist as team leader resolves and avoids conflicts that may arise in a dental care team. In order to create greater insight and understanding around the interviewed dentist's perspective, a semi-structured interview was chosen as the collection method. We interviewed 8 dentists with at least 3 years of work experience in teamwork. The dentists interviewed were from public dentistry and private clinics. All interviews averaged 1 hour.

This study shows that the most common causes of conflict include misunderstanding between people, expectations not being met and unhelpful comments. Furthermore, the study has shown that communication is an important factor in how to handle conflicts. The ability to communicate well when a person is in a conflict or disagreement can be the deciding factor in whether the conflict is resolved or not. Furthermore, we see the importance of good teamwork and that it is important for a good working environment.
