This thesis studies intersexuality in Finland testing and exploring the theories of power by Michel Foucault, in order to find explanations for the common treatment methods and attitudes towards intersex people in Finland. It has been studied in depth as a single case study with an aim to form clarity why such a liberal and advanced country as Finland allows such outright human rights violations as the study is going to uncover, and where is all of it originating from. As a result, it was found that especially normalizing power, disciplinary power, and discursive powers are in roles of the main defining powers that has affected on the formation of some treatment methods and attitudes that have been common for intersex people throughout history in Finland. As a conclusion, it was found out that the main issue to be tackled when it comes to intersexuality in Finland, is to raise awareness around the issue to end shame and secretiveness that continues to surround the topic still today and cause most of the harm to the community.
